Orquesta Simon Bolivar en Hiroshima Diciembre 2008

In December 2008, Dudamel and his orchestra of two hundred youngsters, aged between 12 and 26, will bring their acclaimed repertoire to Tokyo and Hiroshima. On 17 December, 7pm at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space, they’ll perform one of Tchaikovsky’s finest works, the Symphony No 5 in E minor Op 64, from 1888. Ravel’s popular ballet music Daphnis et Chloe, Suite No 2, and the Venezuelan composer Evanchio Castellanos’s 1954 piece Santa Cruz de Pacairigua are also included in the programme.

On 18 December, 7pm at Tokyo International Forum Hall A, the orchestra’s second programme features Mahler’s sumptuous trumpet-filled First Symphony, sometimes called Titan. Also included is Beethoven’s Triple Concerto in C minor, Op 56, featuring the soloists with whom the young Venezuelan musicians collaborated at the 2008 Salzburg Festival – Argentinian pianist Martha Argerich, French violinist Renaud Capuçon and his younger brother, the cellist Gautier Capuçon. This programme will also be performed on 19 December, 7pm at Wel City Hiroshima – the first visit to this city for Dudamel and his orchestra.
